NACCUG is excited to announce that it has recently organized a one-day workshop to validate our situational analysis report on gender mainstreaming and social inclusion. This workshop was part of a grant agreement with the ECOWAS Fund for Regional Stabilisation and Development (FRSD) the Gambia Pilot implemented by GIZ with funding from the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany, to implement a Microenterprise Start-up Support Initiative (MESSI) in the Gambia.
The MESSI aims to contribute to the country’s economic and social stabilization via the improvement of the employment situation and income generation capacity of youths and young adults in three regions of the Gambia, namely, Greater Banjul Area, Lower, and Upper River Regions.
As part of this project, GIZ will support measures that build the organizational capacity of the National Association of Cooperative Credit Unions in The Gambia (NACCUG) to meet its stated commitment to gender and social inclusion, in this regard, NACCUG engaged a Gender Strategy Consultant to develop a participatory Gender and Social Inclusion Strategy and capacity building to guide our gender mainstreaming efforts.
The workshop was attended by the ECOWAS GIZ team in the Gambia, NACCUG’s senior management team, relevant NACCUG staff, and participants from the Gambia Teachers Cooperative Credit Union, Medical and Health Cooperative Credit Union, the Gambia Police Cooperative Credit Union, The National Water and Electricity Company Cooperative Credit Union and the Country Representative the German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation in the Gambia
Thanks to this initiative, NACCUG is poised to develop a Strategy for gender mainstreaming and social inclusion which will be cascaded to our affiliate credit unions. NACCUG is committed to building its organizational capacity to promote gender and social inclusion.
